These home-defense helmets used by air-raid personnel and other civic forces saw some combat use in the late stages of the war. This is a good example of the 3-piece style showing a vertical seam at each ear on the rim from the lower edge to the bead. The blue-green paint is very good, showing just minor rubs, thin brown spots, etc., with good front decal and both decal and stamping on the underside of brim at rear – size is 55. The liner is present and good, as is the chinstrap. There is a bullet hole on the right front brim that would have been fatal to a wearer. This has some expected rust around the edges. The part of the metal bent inwards is still there. The hole is partially covered when the strap is buckled across the brim, indicating it was down in position to be worn when struck. An interesting relic and veteran bring-back to say the least.   [sr] [ph:L]
