Offered here is a good example of a WW2 British military machete by MARTINDALE with a thick brown leather scabbard dated 1943.
The heavy steel blade is 14.75” long while the whole piece measures 20” overall. The blade is in very good condition, and still retains a sharp cutting edge with no nicks. Metal surface has a pewter gray tone. Very light stampings, “MARTINDALE” and “REGISTERED” with even fainter remnants of a crocodile icon. The two black Bakelite grip slabs are in good condition and fitted securely to the blade tang by five large copper rivets. There is a crack across the two top rivets on one side. There is a hole at the top so a lanyard or rope strap can be fitted.
A thick brown leather scabbard is in very good condition with all the original stitching and rivets in place. It also still has the original handle retaining strap in place, that is complete and unbroken.
English “broad arrow” acceptance stamps are found on both pieces. [jet][ph:L]
