This long machete and its canvas scabbard remain in fair, used condition. Made by Collins & Company of Hartford, Connecticut, this is a LEGITIMUS model long jungle machete. The Machete has an impressive overall length of 31.5” with a straight 26” Bush/Collins machete shape blade. The blade is about 2.25” wide at the thickest point. The ricasso is nicely stamped, “U.S.N. / MK-1 / [hammer, hand, & crown emblem] / LEGITIMUS / COLLINS & CO. / 1944” on one side. The blade is in good condition showing scattered dark spotting and small patches of fine pitting or oxidation. The black hard plastic grips are in very good condition with all the rivets solidly attached.

The scabbard shows wear and a few stains. It is the “U.S.N.” / Mk. 1 marked canvas type. Rear seam is stitched and riveted. The reenforced throat has some of the original olive drab paint remaining but shows use. The scabbard tip has a 1-inch spot worn through where the blade tip has worn its way through over time. Belt loop remains firmly attached. A name, Steve Thomas, is likely a more modern addition inked next to the belt loop.

A decent, albeit used WW2 U.S. Navy machete ready for display.  [jet] [ph:L]
