Original paperbound volume written by Charles A. Ingraham and published by the University of Chicago Press.
Volume meas. approx. 6.25 x 9.25 inches and has covers of blue paper with the title in black on the front and spine. Covers have only minor edge wear at top and upper corner of back cover is chipped. Spine creases have light separations. Overall, the book is in excellent condition for its age.
Interior has an old ink dedication on the first page with some scattered stray marks in the text. The inscription is to someone called “ZOUAVE WOODBRIDGE” who, as he read the book, seemed to mark different sections. It is possible “Zouave Woodbridge” was one of Ellsworth’s men but more research is needed.
The binding on the book is very good and there are several pages of black and white photographs of Ellsworth and a wonderful Company photo of his Zouaves circa 1859. Volume runs 167 pages. [ad] [ph:L]
