An important piece of American military history, this manual was prepared under a board presided over by Major General Winfield Scott. It was authorized by an Act of Congress in 1829 to ensure complete tactical uniformity between the United States regular army and state citizen militias. It features instructions ranging from basic individual soldier drills to advanced battalion maneuvers and light-infantry/skirmisher tactics.

Original full brown sheep/calf leather. The front cover board is completely separated from the spine text block, but remains present. The leather shows expected scuffing, rubbing, and edge wear consistent with a 19th-century field manual.

The pages are overall complete but age-toned with standard foxing and spotting throughout, typical of early 19th-century American paper stock.  Includes the original engraved tactical folding plates and diagrams demonstrating battlefield maneuvers.  Cover dimensions are 4.4” x 7.4”.

A highly authentic, untouched shelf piece for a Mexican-American War, or Civil War military collector.  [cm][ph:L]
