CIVIL WAR ROSEWOOD INKWELL

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1156-58

This small, original writing accoutrement is a soldier’s pocketsize inkwell from the Civil War era.  With the screw cap on, the inkwell measures 2” long and 1¼” wide.  Made from dark rosewood, the device is lathe-turned to produce a handsome cylindrical container.  Interior is drilled out to receive a small, ¼” diameter glass vial that slides into the wooden block.  Traces of black ink cover the vial itself.  There is small ID carved into the side of the inkwell that reads “H.P.Y/ CO. B 2.”

No maker’s marks visible.  Entire exterior surface of this cylindrical rosewood inkwell has a fine, dark patina.   [mk] [ph:L]
