First issue Florida state note dated October 10th 1861, and is signed by Florida Governor John Milton, who took office just three days prior. This note is also signed by treasurer Charles H. Austin as well as R. A. Meagher. All signatures are in period ink and remain bold and unfaded. Serial number 539 is penned in period correct red ink.
The overall condition of this note is very good. There is only one minor chip taken out of the left edge. Otherwise, the rest of the note is intact. There are crease marks throughout, indicating that the bill had been folded and wrinkled at some point. However, the note is in stable condition. The edges were trimmed nicely at the time of production, although the top edge has a bit of a wobble to it. Nothing is present on the reverse. [cla][ph:L]
