An original piece of Southern money, being a $20 note from the State of Texas, Austin.
A Texas Treasury Warrant 1862 was a form of scrip or certificate issued by the State of Texas during the Civil War era, often for military service or county expenses, functioning as temporary paper money to pay debts and fund the war effort when hard currency was scarce. They came in various denominations and were signed by officials.
This specimen featuring a statue-like woman along left edge and a steam ship in the upper, right corner. Dated April 23, 1862. Serial number in ink, 37340. “TWENTY DOLLARS” and background printed in orange on front, blank back. The printing is clear and the contrast good. Many pin holes, folds, and wrinkling. Signed in ink on back. Centered with complete frame. A note from Texas is rare. [jet][ph:L]
