2pp. in ink on lined light blue paper. Exhibits fold-marks, and 4” split along horizontal fold-line. Extremely fragile, while remaining intact. Ink faded but entirely legible.

Text: “Appomattox Court House VA /April 10 1865……The bearer Edwin H. Cambell private in Co. G.2nd Regt. Virginia Infantry, a paroled prisoner of the Army of Northern Virginia has permission to go to his home and remain there undisturbed / J.J. Jenkins / Capt. / Comdg. Regt.”

Edwin H. Campbell was enlisted as Private on 8/10/1863 and was mustered into the Co. “G”, 2nd Virginia Infantry, 8/10/1863. He was listed as detailed to Brigade Commissary as clerk [8/15/1863], Hospitalized 10/17/1863 [For febris remittens], and as Department Commissary clerk, 1015/1864.

Joseph J. Jenkins enlisted as Sergeant and was mustered into Co. “H”, 2nd Virginia Infantry, 4/18/1865.He was promoted Captain 4/20/1862. Surrendered on 6/9/1865.

Organized in the spring of 1861 the 2nd Virginia became part of the Stonewall Brigade with whom it served from First Manassas on through Cold Harbor. Later it participated in Early’s 1864 Valley Campaign and the final Appomattox Campaign. At surrender it mustered 9 officers and 62 enlisted.

An extraordinary Appomattox surrender collectible. Ink written paroles, signed by already surrendered ANV officers are rare indeed. In protective sleeve. [jp][ph:L]
