Vol VIII—No.390. 16 pp. [385-400], four columns, with numerous stories, illustrations and cartoons. Front cover features two graphic sketches—“REBEL CRUELTY—OUR STARVED SOLDIERS—From Photographs Taken at United States General Hospital, Annapolis, Maryland”. Followed by an editorial—“Further Proofs of Rebel Inhumanity”—which quotes a hospital doctor as follows: “ These two pictures are what may be called good specimens of the bad cases which are brought to the hospital from the prisons and Belle Isle. They are from the worst of cases, and these worst cases form a numerous body. Both are dead.”

Interior illustrations include three from “The Campaign In Georgia.”---“Charge of Logan’s Troops At The Battle of Resaca, May 14, 1864”, “Robinson’s Brigade of Hooker’s Corps, Saving the Fifth Indiana Battery, May 14, 1864”, “Geary’s Division Digging The Guns Out Of A Rebel Battery Before Resaca, On the Night of May 15, 1864.” Also a trio of sketches from “The Campaign in Virginia”, featuring Union action along the North Anna River.

VG overall condition; there is a stain to the lower right of the front cover, which does continue through the remaining pages, being less visible on each successive page. An excellent issue, w/grisly cover reminding of the inhumanities of prisoner life.  [jp] [ph:L]
