This bayonet model can be fitted to a M1842 percussion musket. The bayonet is bright with signs of pitting oxidation, particularly on the shoulder. There is faint oxidation with the ‘U.S’ that is stamped on the face flat. The blade measures 18” and the socket is just shy of 2 ¾”. Locking ring works, but does not move smoothly and the screw is in good condition. Typical of this model bayonet is a ‘zig zag’ mortise, which is also present on this item.
Good addition, with minor pitting, for any collector looking for earlier accoutrement pieces. [mk] [ph:L]
