This is the Krag – Jorgensen bayonet used on the model 1892 Krag rifle.
From point to pommel the drawn bayonet meas. approx. 16.00 inches long. The blade meas. approx. 11.50 inches with a central fuller that is approx. 8.00 inches long. The blade is semi-bright with heavy mottling and scattered rust spots. Ricasso is marked “US” on one side and “1897” on the other. True edge has two or three small nicks.
The hilt has a bird head iron pommel and a flat iron guard with “o” ring. The wood grips are in good condition with light to moderate wear. Mortise and button attachment work well. Hilt is in overall good condition.
The steel scabbard is the Type 2 introduced in 1895. The scabbard surface is free of dents and has moderate mottling. Scabbard has a ball shaped finial. Frog shows some blue and scattered surface rust. [ad] [ph:m]
