This is an original Model 1855 socket bayonet for .58 caliber Civil War era Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall.
This specimen features a smooth light gray surface tone with some scattered spotting. Metal surface is smooth and clean. Original, working locking ring and screw. Bold “U-S” stamp on the blade flat with another indistinguishable stamp above that. Sub-inspector’s proof stamp of a small “R” is on the side of the socket near the end of the mortice.
