A very good Bowie knife with double-edge spearpoint blade and prominent median ridge, 10-3/4” overall with 5-7/8” blade. German silver mounts. Flat oval guard. Excellent condition hilt with no dents or dings showing raised, scrolling foliate designs. The blade is smooth metal below the ricasso, plain on one side and etched on the other with foliate scrolls near the tip and guard with a central motto between in two lines: “NEVER DRAW ME WITHOUT REASON / NOR SHEATH ME WITHOUT HONOUR.” The section nearest the guard shows some light scratches and rubbing, affecting just the last two letters of “honour” and the scrollwork nearest the guard. The ricasso shows some darkening and shallow pitting, but the maker name “JAMESON” is legible on one side. The point and edge are very good. This comes with its brown leather, gilt blindstamped scabbard in very good condition. Tip and throat with fastening stud are in place. The leather has good color and finish. Both sides have narrow impressed borders. The side with the fastening button has a small, delicate central floral motif. The German silver mounts have a pleasing, uniform, mellow tone. [sr][ph:L]
