Produced by the Spencer Rifle Company of Boston, Massachusetts, this Model 1860 Spencer breechloading repeating carbine is in very good original condition. The carbine, which fired the .52 caliber, “No. 56” Spencer rimfire cartridge, has a 22” long barrel and a two-piece black walnut stock.

Barrel wears a nice mottled, dark gray/brown tone. Atop the barrel is the large folding rear sight, which is complete and fully functional, and the brass “blade” front sight. The receiver, hammer and lockplate all share matching surface and color, with some larger spotting. Bore is very nice, clean, and clear with good, original six-groove rifling. The flat on top of the receiver has a lightly worn stamp of “SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT’D. MARCH 6, 1860.” Strong serial #51849 is located on the top rear of the receiver near the hammer.

Original sling bar and ring are tightly secured to the left side of stock. Retains the single sling swivel near the stock toe. Original magazine tube and spring. All mechanics are crisp and strong.

Wood is original with just a few small dings and scratches. Two light cartouches are found behind the sling bar tang. Overall condition is very good.

A pleasing and classic original Civil War M1860 Spencer carbine showing light use.  [jet] [ph:L]
