A nicely decorated sportsman’s powder flask decorated in two panels with a hunting dog at top and the hunter’s prey at bottom: two stags with prominent antlers standing over a row of five less noble, but more available, ducks. Both carrying rings are present. The body has darker aged brass tones in recesses with some rubbing to lighter color on the high points. Seams are good and no large dents. The spout is adjustable and marked in drams. The top is marked “G & J. W. HAWKSLEY / SHEFFIELD.” In business from 1845 to 1889, the company was founded by brothers George and John William Hawksley, and respected for the quality of its work.

These have a lot of variety, are very Victorian, and make an interesting display with their varied design elements. [sr] [ph:m]
