This is a nice condition .54 caliber Round Ball cartridge. Composed of a .54 caliber round ball wrapped in cartridge paper and tied with string above and below the ball. The cartridge features the regulation folded tail on the bottom. There is one small crack repair on the back, otherwise the cartridge is in fine condition and very displayable.
Used with the large single-shot horse pistols. These are distinguished from .54 caliber rifle cartridges by the length of the powder charge; the Mississippi rifle cartridge being much longer. [jet] [ph:jet]
