Offered here is a fine display of fifteen bullets, one complete cartridge, and a cartridge case used in the Civil War, Union and Confederate, all labeled and properly displayed in a matted Riker case.

Bullets are of many different patterns from various makers, North and South. Starr, Sharps, Sharps & Hankins, Burnside, Maynard, Gallager, Smith, Merrill, and others. A complete Maynard cartridge accompanies the Maynard bullet and an excavated Gallager case is set with the Gallager bullet. Also included are a Macon, Georgia carbine bullet, a Richmond Merrill, and a “stretchie.” These are found where proper ammunition was not available and, in this case, a regulation .58 caliber rifle musket bullet pressed into service and fired from a breechloading carbine causing the round to be stretched out. A detailed description of the specimens is pasted to the back of the case.

A ready-made Civil War bullet collection.  [jet][ph:jet]
