An excellent condition York County powder in the shape of a sectioned cone or frustum. The body measures 7-3/4” and the cap adds another 3/4.” This is a superb job of turning, with the convex base plug showing both incised lines and raised ridges around the central staple in recessed top for a suspension cord. The incised lines are repeated on the body of the horn in groups of six, four and four, transitioning to the wood top, spout and plug which repeat them, with the lines fairly deep around the base of the spout with the edges of the ridges following the angle of the horn’s sides and the curved cuts in the grooves at the same time creating a slightly flared appearance from some angles.
The horn has a very pleasing cream color, shifting to brown at the top. We see a few light scratches and rubs, with two tight hairlines at the bottom edge of the horn, and on the wood spout, but everything is secure. The plug is connected to a staple on the upper body by a short leather thong. The wood has a very pleasing, mellow brown finish. Please see our photos.
This is a very nice looking horn with a elegantly simple geometric shape. [sr][ph:m]
