This brass scissors mold makes both round and conical lead bullets of approximately .32 caliber. Clearly stamped on top and bottom arms of the mold is "C.W. HOWELL" and "MARTINS. FERRY. O.". This Ohio gunsmith was active from 1855-1866. One of his match rifles, seen years ago by this compiler, had an attribution to a Civil War Ohio sharpshooter. He also made Kentucky style rifles, squirrel rifles and Plains rifles. This mold is well used and was lightly surfaced cleaned at one time. Such a well-marked mold to a "Kentucky rifle" maker is a rarity. [pe] [ph:L]
