This Navy revolver by the Metropolitan Arms Company is a copy of Colt’s 1851 Navy. Metropolitan started producing these revolvers after Colt’s production was interrupted by a fire in February of 1864.

Revolver bears serial number 5510 which is matching throughout. Even on the wedge. The weapon has a 7.50 inch octagon barrel that takes a .36 bullet. Barrel was originally blued but is now mostly gray with some light scattered mottling with hints of blue near the muzzle. Brass bead front sight is present and the top barrel flat is strongly stamped “METROPOLITAN ARMS CO. NEW YORK.” Bore is has good rifling but there is also a good bit of pitting along its length.

Loading lever matches the barrel in color and operates properly.

Round six-shot cylinder has all the original nipples and retains 100% of the Naval battle cylinder scene along with the engraved title the “BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS 1862” along one edge. Cylinder surface matches the rest of the iron on the weapon. Cylinder indexes properly and the action is good.

Frame exhibits some faint case colors and has three screws that show very light wear. Trigger guard and grip frame are brass. Wood grips are in nice condition with one small old chip at bottom left rear.

This revolver is really a nice-looking weapon and would enhance any Civil War arms collection. [ad][ph:L]
