VERY NICE MODEL 1816 HARPERS FERRY FLINTLOCK MUSKET, DATED 1816

$2,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-66

This Model 1816 Harpers Ferry .69 caliber smoothbore is in original flintlock form.

The musket has a 41 1/2” round barrel secured with three barrel-bands that in turn are held in place with iron band springs. Smoothbore has some dirt and dust throughout. Front sight mounted on the upper barrel band. A small bayonet lug is also mounted on top of barrel at muzzle. “US” within an oval stamped on left breech.

The lockplate is marked “HARPERS / FERRY / 1816” behind the hammer. Forward of the hammer there is a worn eagle motif with nothing else visible.  The hammer jaws still hold an old flint wrapped in a piece of leather. Pan, frizzen, and feather spring all remain in place and operate as they should. Hammer/trigger mechanics remain strong.

An original “button head” ramrod remains in the channel under the barrel and has threaded end; sticks out past muzzle slightly. Both sling swivels, one at the middle band and one in front of the trigger guard bow are present. Butt plate, trigger guard, side plate, barrel bands, and all gun metal share a matching dark brown patina with fine surface pitting.

Black walnut stock has good dark color. Minor scuffs and dings to the wood from age and use. Edges remain strong. Large script cartouche on left flat.

A great early Harpers Ferry musket in original flint condition!  [jet] [ph:L]
