This is a department level badge for a representative to the annual encampment of the G.A.R. Department of Pennsylvania held at Gettysburg, June 6-7, 1900. The bronze upper bar reads “Gettysburg” at top, flanked by the date, 1900. The central motif shows the clump of trees and the High Water Mark memorial. The ribbon is red, indicating a department badge. A small pendant in the shape of a keystone with Hancock’s portrait is missing. The medal has a portrait bust of James F. Morrison, Department Commander 1899-1900 on the obverse with the equestrian statue of Meade on the reverse. The back of the upper pinback bar shows Union troops rushing in to repulse the Confederates of Pickett’s Charge at the “bloody angle.”
The ribbon and bronze have good color. The ribbon shows some loose threads at the upper left on the reverse. [sr] [ph:L]
