Smaller-size eagle breast plate often called the “Burnside” breast plate and associated with troops from Maine. Stamped brass face is clean and smooth with a crisp eagle stamping. Face has an even chocolate brown patina; a few small dings around the edge. Back has 100% lead fill with rust from iron wire visible, but both loops are gone. Measures approximately 60mm in diameter.

Recovered from a known campsite of the 3rd Maine Infantry located along the Taneytown Road. At Gettysburg, the 3rd Maine has monuments in the Peach Orchard and on Hancock Avenue. [jet] [ph:L]
