RELIC U.S. KNAPSACK “J” HOOK FROM TANEYTOWN ROAD, GETTYSBURG, KEN BREAM COLLECTION

$20.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1163-99

This is an excavated brass hook from a U.S. regulation tarred knapsack. These brass pieces are known as “J-hooks” and there were two on each knapsack. They were originally designed to hook into the belt slides associated with the 1855 Rifleman’s waist belt. Recovered along the Taneytown Road at Gettysburg by Ken Bream.

This is from the Ken Bream collection that was sold at auction in October 2021. Mr. Bream was a 1970 graduate of Gettysburg High School and life-long relic hunter and collector. His parents managed the Stuckey’s Restaurant that was once located on the north-west corner of the intersection of Emmitsburg and Wheatfield Roads. In the late 1960s through the early 1970s Ken worked on the Eisenhower Farm as a groundskeeper, maintenance man, and general helper for the Eisenhower’s. For many years, he was the Gettysburg Dog Enforcement Officer.  This was lot #212.   [jet] [ph:L]
