Here we have a short history of the Battle of Gettysburg published in 1885 by the Gettysburg & Harrisburg Railroad.  The book details the actions of the battlefield while also giving some context to the area around Gettysburg such as the Cumberland Valley. The book is written in somewhat of a cheeky fashion in order to appeal to those who are interested enough to read the booklet but aren’t so interested in the tactical minutiae of regimentals. But interestingly enough, an order of battle is included at the back.

The booklet measures 6.5 inches by just under 5 inches. The front cover features an interesting image of a confused soldier wearing a first division fifth corps badge, a white buff belt, side arm holster, and knee high cavalry boots as he rides his horse. However, he also wears red trim on his jacket. We are not sure if the artist of this image took some liberties or if it was a purposeful interpretation to include elements of all soldiers. You decide!

The booklet is in good condition with only minor wear to the spine despite some loss of the binding near the top and bottom. The binding remains tight and appears to not have been heavily read. Overall, this booklet is in good condition. [cla] [ph:L]
