The face of this plate has a nice light chocolate patina with minor scattered light oxidation. The face is free of dings and dents.
Reverse has 100% of the lead fill and both rusted attachment loops. Bottom edge has “POWERS HILL” in black ink.
With the item is a letter of authenticity from The Gettysburg Museum of History stating that the plate was dug by the late Dean S. Thomas on Powers Hill on Granite Schoolhouse Road just southeast of Gettysburg. Powers Hill was used by Union artillery to support infantry units near Spangler’s Spring and the lower summit and base of Culp’s Hill. Of course, the artillery had supporting infantry in the area as well. [ad] [ph:L]
