This neat and likely singular photograph is mounted to a dark gray card with decorative border designs and depicts 5 men standing at the High Water Mark Monument – near The Angle and along Hancock Avenue. One is in civilian dress, adorned with medals, while the others are in uniforms that match examples seen among both the GAR and the Sons of Union Veterans. Several ribbons can be seen amongst their lapels and breasts. The visible landmarks date the photo to the very late 1800’s to the early 1900’s.
The mounting card shows some edge wear, most notably along the bottom and left sides with very minimal wear to the right. A small pin hole is present at the upper center. The image itself is nice and clear, with a minor section of corner loss at low left. The reverse is blank with matching edge wear, save for a small piece of well-aged masking tape with the name “Mrs. J. M. Galbraith”. Overall measurements are 7” x 9”.
This image of what is plausibly a group of veterans or family members standing at one of Gettysburg’s most iconic battlefield locations would make a perfect addition to any Civil War-related collection. [cm][ph:L]
