Offered is the legendary Matthew Brady image, in stereoscopic format for retail sale by William Tipton, of 3 captured Confederate soldiers posing near the Lutheran Theological Seminary.  The photo is mounted to a plain card in muted yellow, with minimal edge wear. The reverse is clean, with a large commercial label listing other available offerings, likewise reproduced from existing photographs. Very minor corner wear is noted at low left. Dimensions are 3.5” x 6.9”.

William Henry Tipton was one of the most prolific and influential battlefield photographers and entrepreneurs in the history of Gettysburg. He dedicated his life to documenting the landscape, erecting monuments, and capturing portraits of the veterans who returned to the battlefield. Today, his extensive catalog of images serves as a core resource for the National Park Service and Civil War historians.
