Published by J.B. Lippincott, Philadelphia, 1861. Owner inscription, rear eps, faded ink: “Mr. Jacob W. Herrington / Co. A, 1st Infantry /Regt. of P.R. Vol [30th PA] / Camp Pierpont / Fairfax Co./ Virginia.” 250 pp., fldg. dia., 31 plates. In brown buckram w/black lea. spine w/gilt lettering.
Exhibits light cover staining & light wear at the extremities. Also light damp staining of lower third of the text. Plus patches of light foxing. Else good minus.
Jacob W. Herrington enlisted as a Private and was mustered into Co. “A, 30th PA. Infantry, 7 /26/ 1861. He was listed as a POW 10/11/1863. Herrington’s regiment, originally designated 1st PA Reserves, was attached first to McCall’s Pennsylvania Reserves Division, then to 1st Corps and then 5th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. Beginning with McClellan’s 1862 Peninsula Campaign this unit engaged in all the major AOP campaigns and battles through North Anna during Grant’s 1864 Overland Campaign. It left the front on June 1st, right before Cold Harbor. During service it lost 108 men killed or mortally wounded and 66 by disease for a total of 104.
