Offered here is a typical Civil War-era plated table spoon. Measures 7.25” long overall. Handle is engraved “Lieut. C.F. Stone”. The piece was “dug” and wears a very dark patina overall. The spoon remains complete, solid, and strong.
Charles F. Stone was born in Haddonfield, NJ in 1818. He enlisted on 9/4/1861 and was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant of Company “I” 10th New Jersey Infantry. He was discharged on 3/4/1862 by S.O. #52. On 8/13/1862 he enlisted as a Private in Company “B” 118th Pennsylvania Infantry. Stone was promoted to Corporal and in May, 1863, to Sergeant. He was Mustered Out on 6/1/1865 at Washington, DC. After a serious fall, he died in Cooper Hospital, Camden, NJ, on October 29, 1899. [jet][ph:L]
