Here we have a bust view of Private John DeWolf of the 127th Illinois infantry and later of the 49th USCT. Image shows a bust view of a serious looking man wearing a frock coat with the collar turned down and a small cravat. The bottom of the image is signed in period ink “Yours Truly / J.S. DeWolf.”

The CDV is quite plain with no border to the mount. The photograph is affixed to the mount in a crooked manner. The top edges are trimmed and there is a smudge of discoloration at the very top left near the border which appears to be damage of the photograph. However, the photograph is intact but the albumen of the development process wasn’t applied evenly and has resulted in a light spot. The image itself has surface dirt throughout.

The reverse of the image is blank having no backmark or other items to note with the exception of some minor foxing.

John DeWolf began his service with the 127th IL in 1862 and was discharged for promotion with the 49th USCT in 1864.

John DeWolf was born DeWolf married Anna Sommers on Thanksgiving Day in 1900. The two lived in Kansas City, Missouri with their two children. John died in 1921 at age 79. [CLA][ph:L]
