This non-excavated state-issued cartridge box plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “NHSM” for New Hampshire State Militia. The face wears a smooth, light brown patina with two small spots of verdigris. Lead filled back retains 100% of lead fill. No maker’s mark. The iron wire loops are in perfect shape.
These apparently never left the state as none are known to be battlefield excavated.
A nice state-issued box plate. [jet][ph:L]
