This smaller variety of canteen generally found favor among militia units that did not need large capacity vessels for their typically lighter duties. Measuring just 4.25” in diameter, this example retains a period layer of navy-blue paint, trimmed in gold/yellow. At the center of the front face is a 4-pointed star, with initials “S.A.” on the opposing side. A sling brackets are present and securely attached while the interior is in very good condition. The rolled and soldered spout is attached and undamaged. Scattered and very small areas of paint chipping and loss are noted, giving this piece a veteran look appropriate for its age.
If you are a collector of antebellum or militia items, this is a prime, personalized item to have. [cm][ph:L]
