This nice, unaltered sling comes complete with eagle breast plate. Intended to support the heft of a leather cartridge box, they are often found in a dry and cracked condition from age and use. This piece has been treated with a preservation agent, which has prevented and treated common drying and cracking, leaving the leather moisturized.
The outer layer is a rich black color, with light areas of stretching from storage or use. No cracking is noted, save for a few barely noticeable areas where the belt is folded and secured by a piece of rawhide thong. The attached brass plate is of a mellow hue with minor denting and scratching to the face. It is securely attached by an older (perhaps original) piece of rawhide thong (leather cut to string proportions). No makers stampings are noted. The scalloped ends host four punches for attaching to a box. Some light crazing to the buff reverse (inner) side of the strap is also noted. Overall length is over 66”.
A nice piece for a box in need of a sling or to complete a display. [cm][ph:L]
