This Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate is in beautiful unissued condition. The brass face is bright with original “wash” and the “US” stands out well. The plate’s reverse is likewise untouched with brass “arrow” hooks. A beautiful US Civil War belt buckle mounted on an equally nice bridle leather waist belt.
Two-inch wide bridle leather waist belt includes a brass keeper attached to the end. A “METZGER / PHILA” maker’s stamp is present as is an oval government sub-inspector’s stamp. Leather is supple with only scattered very light crazing and a few small scuffs. A very nice, unissued belt. [jet] [ph:]
