This is a complete belt rig for the Model 1832 foot artillery sword. The belt is constructed of rough-out buff leather with attached frog for the foot artillery sword. The Pattern 1851 eagle sword buckle is the enlisted pattern with the applied German silver wreath. The leather is dry and shows scuffing, crazing, and outer finished layer loss throughout, though it is most prominent on and around the frog and attachment points. The leather belt portion which connects both frog attachment rings is torn from the right brass ring while the left shows a partial tear. The left frog attachment is also partially torn at center.  Otherwise, all stitching appears to be intact and strong.  The keeper loops are in good condition and the belt is complete with brass keeping tongue and 2-piece p51 belt plate in good, untarnished condition.  The tongue of the plate itself is stamped “720” and there is no loss of the German Silver on the face of the plate.

In its current configuration, it measures 38.5” in length with two holes left for sizing down. The width of the belt portion stands at 1.8”.

An honest example of quintessential US Civil War artillery equipage that would still display well and round out any collection.  [cm][ph:L]
