This is a hinged cartridge box to carry.45-70 cartridges.

The box is made of black bridle leather. The front has an embossed oval with “US” on the center of the flap. The box is hinged at the bottom using a brass rod as a hinge. A closing tab is sewn to the back of the box and closes over a brass finial mounted on the top of the front half. Two sewn belt loops on the back.

Web loops inside for twenty .45-70 cartridges. A pocket on the side for a combination tool. On back of closing tab “ROCK ISLAND” is faintly visible
