Pattern 1864 US cartridge box in good condition. The outer flap is boldly embossed “US” in the center and has a sub-inspector’s oval stamp on the lower, left corner. There is some light crazing and light edge wear on the front flap. The latch-tab is stitched and riveted and remains whole and unbroken. The inner flap is very fine and the two side “ears” remain firmly stitched in place.

The implement pouch is complete with moderate crazing and some loss of surface finish. Both cartridge tins remain in place (one divider is loose). The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. All stitching remains strong.  Belt loops attached to the back. Leather has been treated and remains supple.

A solid Civil War infantry cartridge box.  [sr] [ph:L]
