This is a Civil War-era percussion cap pouch.
This pattern has the closing tab as a continuation of the outer flap. This latch tab is unbroken. Oval sub-inspector’s stamp lightly visible on front. The interior flap has both “ears” firmly sewn in place. Clearly stamped “S.H. YOUNG / & CO. / NEWARK / N.J.” Fleece remains. Bottom has brass finial.
Both narrow belt loops remain in place on back and are stitched and riveted in place. All stitching remains strong and intact.
A very nice Civil War cap pouch. [jet][ph:L]
