This is a black leather holster made to accommodate large Dragoon revolvers.
The holster “pocket” measures approximately 11.5” along its front edge. Holster is made of black bridle leather. The flap and belt loop are separate pieces, each sewn to the back. The original leather closing tab is sewn to the flap and remains unbroken. The associated brass finial also remains tightly attached.
Belt loop is approximately 3” wide along the top fold and is attached by six rivets and a line of stitching. The leather plug that was once sewn in at the bottom of the holster is long gone.
In overall very good condition, this holster shows use. There is some crazing to the finish overall and expected wear. Stitching remains good except for a 2” area in the location where the loading lever of the revolver was located. The “shape” of a large revolver can still be seen pressed into the leather.
This is a good, military-style flap holster that would accommodate a large Civil War revolver. [jet] [ph:L]
