This Westerwald salt glazed jug with handle has a cobalt blue bird design and banding. Adding to the character of this piece are the smudge marks on the side of the rim where the spout was formed by pressing the pottery before it hardened.
Westerwald stoneware is a salt glazed pottery found in the Westerwald region of Germany since the beginning of the 15th century. Some stoneware is further decorated with manganese or cobalt designs.
Crock measures 7 ¾” high x 2 ¾” at base x 14” around at widest part. No cracks or chips. [sl] [ph:L]
