Black silk satin mantle is cut with a circular back and long tails in the front. Darts and curved seams create shaping for the shoulders and arms. The mantle closes with concealed buttons and buttonholes; there is a single brass hook-and-eye at the neck. It is lined with olive green cotton and wool sateen; there is a very lightweight open-weave cotton interlining. The mantle is trimmed with rows of black silk chenille fringe at the neckline, over the upper chest and back, and along the lower edge. There is a hanger loop at the back neck.
