Stunning burgundy silk velvet hat c. 1890s. The wide brim is bound with a bias strip of the burgundy silk velvet. The circular crown, tapered from top to bottom, is trimmed with a band of scarlet silk taffeta and accented on each side with large clusters of scarlet and burgundy velvet flowers and silk leaves. A 7" wide ruched strip of matching silk velvet accents the back of the hat and separates the clusters of flowers. The interior of the crown is lined in black glazed cotton. The hat measures 13" in diameter overall, with a 4" brim in the front and a 3" brim in the back. The crown is 3" deep, 8” in diameter at the top, and 6" in diameter at the bottom. Excellent condition, with no visible signs of wear. [CS][PH:L]
