Group of three lace collars and one pair of lace mitts, c.1870-1900.
A. A very nice standing lace collar and attached jabot made with linen thread and ivory silk tape. The standing portion of the collar is constructed with two rows of the silk tape joined in the center with linen thread lace. The top of the band has a scalloped edging made with a single linen thread. A floral lace design made of the silk tape and linen thread work finishes the bottom edge of the neck band and creates the jabot. Each of the floral motifs has a tiny circle in the center made of buttonhole stitches. Measurements: Neckband = 14½" x ¾". Floral pattern at neck = 1½" deep. Jabot = 7" long x 5½"wide. Condition: Excellent. No broken threads or holes, ell embroidery intact.
B. A pair of elbow-length ecru lace mitts made from machine-made filet lace fabric with a floral pattern. 6" in circumference at the top. Length: One 12", one 14". Did one stretch or shrink when laundered? Condition: Fair-Good, with wear at the top edges and around the ends of the fingers.
C. A large semi-circular collar of ecru needle lace, patterned with fingers of circular motifs increasing in size and ending in narrow motifs of long floral buds with leaves. Measurements: 10" deep; 16½" at the neckline; approximately 40" at the outer edge. Condition: Very good.
D. Large circular collar constructed with black silk velvet neckband and four large triangular points. A deep ruffle of heavy ivory lace is sewn to the edges of the black velvet. Measurements: Neck 14½", each triangle 4" at base, 5" long. Lace ruffle: 7" deep, 115" circumference at outer edge. Condition: Good. [cs][ph:L]
