A striking, unusual, and very fashionable fanchon bonnet c.1875-1885 from the Texas Civil War Museum. The bonnet is made of copper wool felt. The front and sides on the bonnet are trimmed with elaborate arrangements of feathers in shades of copper, gold, and brown. A full-sized small bird is attached to the center of the brim. The crown of the bonnet is accented with multiple loops and bows of 3" wide silk grosgrain ribbon with satin edges. Two 34" long streamers of the same ribbon hang from the back of the crown. The hat is lined in black glazed cotton. A stamp in the back of the crown states “Righters, 514 Penn Street, Reading, PA.”
Condition: Good. Felt and ribbon are in very good condition. Some small feathers are coming loose. [cs][ph:L]
