This is a nice pair of silver tongs measuring 6” long overall. Features nice engraved edge design on arms. Initials “P.L.M.” on spring end. Small spoon bowl ends. Hallmark on both arms appears to be a “JK”. Very fine condition.

Sugar tongs are small serving utensils used at the table to transfer sugar pieces from the sugar bowl to the tea cups. These first appeared near the end of the 17th century, and were very popular by 1800, with half of British households owning them. The decline of the formal tea party led to the disappearance of the sugar tongs, and now they are considered an oddity at the table.
