4 1/8" tall. On both sides are a Toby figure holding a mug and shaving razor, there is also an acanthus leaf on the front. The mug is held by a naturalistic branch handle. Made by E&W Bennett, Baltimore, MD 1850-1858. The mug is signed with the small Bennett stamp E & W Bennett/Canton Ave/Baltimore Md. The Bennett factory only used this stamp until 1858 when William Bennett left the firm. The Bennett brothers perfected what we now call the Rockingham glaze. The piece is completely dipped in a colorless glaze and then a dark glaze is splashed over it. No two pieces are the same since the dark glaze ran and puddled differently each time. These mugs are rarer than the shaving mugs with an interior platform for holding the lathering soap. This mug has some damage. There is a crack in the side and some repairs with repainting to the rim. However, it is an extremely fine example that is hard to find signed. [LJ] [ph:L]
