A group of four photographs headed by a large reunion view of the veterans of the 20th Maine Infantry, the regiment that held the extreme left of the Union line on Little Round Top on July 2, 1863. Accompanied by a Confederate veterans' group view and two Maine studio portraits.

THE 20TH MAINE REUNION, 1912

Period photographic print, approx. 9 1/2 x 6 in., in its original photographer's folder with pebble-grain embossed cover and grey spine and corners. Some sixty veterans, with wives and family members, are ranged on the steps of a rusticated stone building with a broad arched entrance. The caption is lettered in white on the negative across the doors: "20 Me. Regmt 1912 / Washburn Photo / Lewiston Me." Many of the men wear reunion ribbon badges, and at least one Grand Army of the Republic membership medal is visible in the front rank. A small girl in a white dress stands at right, and a man at far left appears to be writing in a notebook as the picture is taken. A fine late gathering of the regiment's survivors, nearly fifty years after Gettysburg.

CONFEDERATE VETERANS' GROUP

Outdoor view, approx. 6 x 4 3/4 in., on a dark grey card mount approx. 8 1/2 x 7 in. Elderly Confederate veterans stand close-packed beneath trees, most in slouch hats; one wears a hat bearing a wreathed insignia on the front, and several display reunion badges with top bars above circular medallions, one bar appearing to read "VIRGINIA." Undated, ca. 1900-1915 by appearance; occasion and photographer not identified.

CABINET PORTRAIT, NATIONAL PORTRAIT CO., PORTLAND, MAINE Approx. 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 in. Bust portrait of a man with heavy side-whiskers joined to a full moustache, high collar and polka-dot cravat. The verso is stamped by the National Portrait Co., 537 Congress St., Portland, Me., and carries period ink and pencil notations "No 336," "36 Line," "Plain" and "C," apparently studio order notations. Sitter unidentified.

COUPLE PORTRAIT, MONSON, MAINE

Oval-matted portrait of a middle-aged couple on an embossed card mount approx. 9 x 6 1/2 in., with the photographer's script blindstamp of a Monson, Me. studio at lower left. Ca. 1900-1910 by dress. Sitters unidentified.
