Full-standing studio view of Smith in full uniform. He wears a double-breasted coat with shoulder straps and a waist belt with medical staff sword. Clear image with very good contrast. Photographer’s backmark, Charles Cohill, Philadelphia.
Smith enlisted on 11/10/1861 as a Surgeon and was commissioned into US Volunteers Medical Staff. He was Mustered Out on 7/27/1865. Promoted to Lt. Colonel 6/1/1865 by Brevet. He died on November 21, 1877 and is buried at Great Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Malvern, PA. [jet] [ph:L]
